KPLU Selects Raxco Software to Provide Peace-of-Mind Defragmentation
Raxco Software, the leader in disk defragmentation software, has announced that Seattle-based KPLU-88.5 FM, a National Public Radio affiliate, has purchased PerfectDisk® to help keep workstation and server performance high and system crashes low.
The news staff at KPLU creates and edits multiple files daily, copying each to a server and then using this data to develop final audio clips for broadcast. Therefore, multiple copies of audio files measuring into the hundreds of megabytes each are stored on the servers by reporters during the course of a day. In addition to news content, KPLU’s DJ staff requires access to numerous large files throughout their programs.
KPLU’s heavy file use and storage requirements drove the station to seek out a long-term solution to combat fragmented files slowing its servers’ performance. System crashes due to hardware instability also needed to be resolved. PerfectDisk’s single-pass defragmentation and freespace optimization capabilities quickly boosted KPLU’s workstation and server performance as well as providing a permanent solution to future file fragmentation issues.
“When we searched for a defragmenter, we looked for a system we could count on to ensure our systems would be well managed,” said Paul Rasmussen, IT director for KPLU. “As we move files around, PerfectDisk helps us both recover space through defragging and optimizing what’s left of the freespace. Plus, the easy automated scheduling feature is great, especially for a radio station where the time window for maintenance is between two and four a.m.”
KPLU plans to increase the number of licenses it has installed on its servers and workstations in the near future. Rasmussen adds, “The great team at Raxco and their implementation support has given us confidence that we will add more PerfectDisk licenses as our business grows.”
“KPLU is a terrific example of a small business that benefits from the unique features and stand-out defragmenting capabilities that PerfectDisk provides,” said Joe Abusamra, vice president of operations at Raxco Software, Inc. “We are delighted that our radio and television broadcast industry customers consistently recognize the business benefits of defragmentation and acknowledges the ROI in maintaining its servers and workstations.”
